More Than Beautiful Rooms

People often assume interior design is about choosing fabrics or arranging furniture.

It isn’t.

More often than not, it’s about being invited into someone’s life.

Not many professions begin with someone handing you the keys to their home. Before you’ve selected a paint color or chosen a piece of furniture, you’re learning how people live. You notice where children leave their backpacks after school. Which chair someone always sits in. The family photographs that have followed them from house to house. The cookbook that’s permanently open on the kitchen counter.

Every home tells a story long before anything changes.

It’s a privilege I never take for granted.

Long before I became an interior designer, I was drawn to beauty.

Not beauty in the sense of perfection, but the kind that makes you pause. I’ve always noticed how color can change the feeling of a room. How texture invites you to reach out and touch it. How light transforms a space throughout the day. I’ve always been fascinated by the way our surroundings make us feel.

Designing asks you to slow down. To notice the way morning light moves across a room. The softness of linen. The coolness of natural stone beneath your hand. The warmth of wood that has been touched for years. It asks you to pay attention to details that are easy to overlook but impossible to forget once you’ve noticed them.

I spend my days surrounded by color, texture, craftsmanship, and creativity. I solve problems with both logic and intuition. Every project is different, but they all begin the same way: by listening. Before I think about finishes or floor plans, I want to understand how someone wants to live. How they gather. Where they find quiet. What they want to feel when they walk through the front door.

I believe our homes shape us more than we realize. They influence the way we begin our mornings, the conversations we have around the dinner table, the way we welcome family and friends, and the quiet moments at the end of the day when everything else has finally slowed down.

When a home reflects the people who live in it, something changes. Life feels a little easier. A little calmer. More like itself.

That’s what drew me to interior design.

Yes, I love beautiful materials. I appreciate thoughtful craftsmanship. I could spend hours surrounded by fabrics, finishes, and colors. But those things have never been the destination. They’ve always been the language.

The real work has always been creating places where people can feel more at home, not only in their surroundings, but within their everyday lives.

To me, that’s what good design has always been about.
